The Department of Information and Public Relations
acts as an interface between Govt., media, and people. The responsibility of
the Department of Information and Public Relations is to project, highlight
& disseminate the activities of the government through print and e-media.
The Department of Information and Public
Relations have public relations that undertake multifarious activities to
project the government's policies, programs, and initiatives. The Department of
Information and Public Relations coordinates with other media units of the
Central Government viz., Radio, Doordarshan, and PIB.
The Department of Information and Public Relations
headed by Director General/Director at the centre level and two joint directors
at the provincial level at Jammu and Srinagar. Besides this, the Department of
Information and Public Relations has a Bureau at New Delhi, which covers the
government's meetings and events. The bureau at Delhi also liaises with the
Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and the central government offices.
The Department of Information and Public Relations has an extensive network of
District Information Centre (DICs) at the district headquarters. The District
Information Centre is a replica of the department at the central level. It
highlights and projects the activities at the district level and acts as a
bridge between people and the district administration. Similarly, the
Department of Information and Public Relations has many Tehsil Information Centre
(TICs) through which the same job has replicated at the local administrative
units.

Information and Public Relations"
Department of Information and Public Relations has a
Reference and Research Units. One at Srinagar and other at the Jammu.
Department of Information and Public Relation's library available for public
use during the office hours. In the Department of Information and Public Relation’s
library, both Units have the cuttings of various newspapers. It also has a
collection of historical documents and material of important events that
preserved in the library of the Department of Information and Public Relations.
The library of the Department of Information and Public Relations in both the units
have valuable reference books which the Journalists, Research Scholars make use
of it in their fieldwork.
The Jammu Unit of Department of Information and Public Relations located at Mubarak Mandi Complex, Jammu. The Srinagar Unit of Department of Information and Public Relations located on the premises of Government Press Srinagar.
